World Orphan Relief has partnered with Zambian Soap Company for the purposes of growing the local enterprise opportunities in Zambia, and to utilize this organic soap to provide funding for Orphans in Zambia.
In addition, we have also partnered with Zambian Soap Company to host a 5K race in Boulder, CO, on May 19th. For more information on this "Run for the World" or to register please see www.zambiansoap.com/run. All proceeds from race will be used for construction at our Silemba facility; House of Faith Orphanage. A message from Zambian Soap Company follows:
Hi Scott,
We're excited about the possibilities of partnering with World Orphan Relief to help build orphanages in Zambia. In our work we've encountered the devastating impact that AIDS and other diseases are having on Zambia's population, as you well know.
We're very pleased with the idea that through fundraising for WOR by selling soap, lip balm and other items, we'll not only be creating employment for Zambian artisans to create high-quality, organic products they can be proud of and support their families with, we'll also be giving to the whole nation of Zambia through these orphanages.
Our fundraising efforts to date have been very successful in involving schools to reach out to children in Zambia. For one fundraiser at Louisville Middle School in Colorado, we had 200 7th graders selling soap and handwoven gift baskets to build a school in a Zambian village. Their goal was to raise the $7,000 (about 2,500 bars sold) to build one school. But the kids went way beyond their goal, selling nearly 5,000 bars of soap for a total of $12,500 raised--almost enough to build TWO schools! Students, teachers and parents all told me how great it felt to do something tangible to improve the lives of kids in Africa.
Thanks for all your help--I'm looking forward to seeing the fruits of our work together.
Sincerely,
Seth Wilson
