Run for the World 5K

We had nearly 80 runners and walkers for this year's Run for the World 5K in Boulder, CO. All of the funds are not in as of yet, but we believe that we raised over $6,000 for the project in Silembe, Zambia.

Silembe

We continue to wait on our 'official' papers from the Chief in regards to the land in Silembe. Funds are in place, and the drill rig is ready to go when we give him the word to drill for water. We have sent messengers to the Chief's location and they are to wait until such time they can bring back the official papers for the land.

Keep this site and our project there in your prayers. Anything can happen in Africa.

Hope for the City Orphanage

After visiting Hope for the City Orphanage in January of this year, it was apparent that the home was in dire need of a stove to cook meals for the girls there, and a refrigerator to keep their food.

We were blessed to help the home with the funds necessary for these items, but time was required for additional security for the home before the appliances were installed. In addition, the electrical wiring in the home required some work before installing the appliances.

After coordinating with the fine people of Kitwe Central Assembly of God, please find attached photos for the fridge and stove as they were presented to the orphanage by the Pastor on behalf of WOR.

The girls were very appreciative for our kind donation of these items to the orphanage. Thanks to you all for helping make this happen.

Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society Bake Sale

The results of the Easter Bake Sale to benefit the WOR are in!

I am pleased to inform you that through the generosity of the Assumption of the Theotokos Metropolis Cathedral of Denver church community we were able to raise $2,104.15! The best bake sale ever! Isn't this great? We are so happy that we can work with the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society to serve chidren throughout the world.

These funds will go toward our first orphanage in Silimbe, Zambia. These funds will go toward drilling of the well to provide water to the entire orphanage community. We will be drilling this well in the next several weeks, and the proceeds from this bake sale will pay for more than half of the total cost! In Africa, water symbolizes life, and through this fundraiser the Assumption Cathedral here in Denver has provided 'life' for House of Faith Orphanage in Silembe, Zambia.

This group has also been instrumental in assisting our efforts in Mexico over the last several years. Thanks again to the Ladies of Phioptochos here in Denver!

Visit to Copperbelt, Zambia

Mike Jones, WOR Missions Director for Africa, will be visiting the Copperbelt Region this week. His trip will serve mulitple purposes, but will go something like this:

• Lubuto - will visit Lubuto Orphanage to confirm what level of contruction is complete, and what has to be done to finish work there. Mike will be meeting with representatives of MMM and Father's Love Ministries on site.
• Master of Peace Ranch - Mike will visit the proposed site for this orphanage just outside Ndola. This site includes a 3 bedroom home, 25-acres, fish ponds, corral, chicken run, and piggery.
• WOTA - will pay visit to Pastor Barry Ilunga of WOTA Ministries to discuss plans for WOR Orphanage in Chingola -Blessing House Orphanage.

Please pray that MIke and Linda's trip is productive and safe as we serve the children of Zambia.

Run for the World

I wanted to make you aware of an upcoming event that I have decided to get involved with, and my hopes are that you will also want to be involved in some way. The Zambian Soap Company is organizing a day to build awareness for Orphans, and to raise funds for World Orphan Relief activity in Zambia. This event will be a 5K run and will be held May 19th in Boulder, CO. If you wish to participate in the day of the event, you can also walk if you prefer.

I began training for this run last Sunday, and for those who don’t know, I am not much of a runner. Last week I logged 6.2 miles as I get in shape for this 5K run. I don’t think that I have run this far since my military days –maybe 20 years! This run is a little more special for me however, May 19th, the day of the run, is the second anniversary of the passing of our daughter Faith. This is actually just a coincidence, but makes it more special nonetheless. It is hard to believe that it has been two years since she came to visit for a time. She was able to resurrect in me a whole new level of faith, hope, and love.

My experience with Faith was actually the impetus for the start of World Orphan Relief. A 3.5 mile run for Orphans, and in the memory of my daughter Faith, I hope you will decide to support me in this effort for Orphans. These funds are tax-deductible, and funds are going to construct an orphanage in Silembe, Zambia. My personal goal is to raise $2,500 through this event which will get us 25% of the funding for a home for 12 Orphans. Overall we hope to raise $10,000, just enough for one home at House of Faith Orphanage in Silembe. I hope you can help.

World Orphan Relief Zamba

As of February 27th, we are organized in the country of Zambia as World Orphan Relief Limited. Thanks to Mike Jones for his assistance with this, and we look forward to working with him and the people of Zambia to develop this organization.
