Kingdom Work!

I was reviewing a few notes this morning, wanting to put together an update, or a series of updates based on news from Silembe.

Mike and Linda Jones have been a huge blessing to our efforts in Zambia. Not only have we developed friendships that will last a life time, Mike and Linda have been a real encouragement to me. You see, they have had a real tough time in 2007. Here's a note from one of their emails earlier this year:

While driving back from Lusaka Wednesday night, the head gasket blew on the lorry. We got a missionary friend living near by to tow us to Kalomo. The next morning I was able to limp into Livingstone for repairs that hopefully will only take a week. We drove Joann's doublecab, which we had to do some work since it hadn't been used in months, and drove home. I had planned to haul sand, rock, and bricks Thursday. I could hire someone to do the hauling, but it will cost much more, so I think it best to wait.

Linda and I have recently endured some of the hardest "hits" of our lives. As I was praying, examining myself and the things we were doing, I believe I know why these things jumped up. They started right at the time of our relationship with WOR. The enemy is attacking hard because he sees how great this work will be for The Kingdom of God. No enemy will stop these orphanages, because God has lead us and empowered us to break down this shameful stronghold in Africa.

This note was written about a week after they had their main mode of transportation stolen; a Toyota Landcruiser. I am happy to say the Mike and Linda are on our side! Please keep Mike and Linda Jones, and our work in Zambia, in your prayers.

Blessings, Scott

The Walls are Going Up!

After much work in getting together the necessary items for the foundation, the foundation was completed earlier this month, and the walls of our first home at the House of Faith Orphanage is going up. Praise God for all of the individuals who have been hard at work with this project, both in Zambia and the US! We have established a completion date for the first home of October 15th, 2007. We are also starting work on the bath house and laundry area, and the outdoor cooking area. Hopefully, all these things will come together in time to start moving children in need to the facility by November 1st. Please keep this project in your prayers! Blessings........

Silembe Building Materials

Bringing all of the building materials together is one of the biggest logistical challenges of this project. Notice in the foreground the sand piled up, this is needed to mix the cement for the foundation.
The bricks stacked up are from a multiple sources as one supplier in the village won't typically have the production capacity to meet our needs.
We have communicated to you the need for water, materials, bricks, funds, but the thing I look forward to most is meeting the children that together we are going to be able to help. You personally may not be in a formal adoption process, but through your prayers, financial support, and hands-on participation we are going to be fathers and mothers to many children in Zambia. Blessings, -S

Water in Silembe

This is a picture of locals pumping water for use in mixing concrete. Activity is picking up as our team in Silembe pours concrete today for the foundation and footers in the first of 6 homes in Silembe.
This newly established well is providing life for this community as the locals pitch-in to serve their children. To get involved or to support World Orphan Relief please visit us at www.worldorphanrelief.org.

Silembe Construction

Things continue to move right along with the first home at Silemb.
This is a work crew at the site gathering materials for the foundation.
The foundation for the first home is actually completed, and hope to have more pictures to share soon. Within the next several weeks we will be projecting a completion date for the first home. We hope to have home furnished and children moving in within 45 days after this point.
Blessings, Scott

Silembe Foundation

I talked to Mike earlier this week, and he confirmed that the foundation for the first home is complete. We will begin gathering materials to construct the walls, and will have a much better idea of when the first home will be finished in the next couple of weeks.

Mike and Linda still haven't found their Land Cruiser. Transport has been made difficult by the loss of this vehicle, continue to pray for the safe return of the truck.

Peace,
Scott A. Nordstrom
